The OSCE can feel intimidating, but with the right preparation it's absolutely passable on your first try. Here's what we've learned training hundreds of nurses.
1. Treat every practice station like the real thing
The biggest predictor of success is realistic practice. Time yourself, dress the part, and get feedback from someone who knows the marking criteria.
2. Master your communication
Examiners assess how you interact with patients, not just your clinical skill. Practise clear, calm, patient-centred communication.
3. Know the assessment criteria
Understand exactly what each station is testing. When you know what's being marked, you can focus your energy where it counts.
4. Build a pre-station routine
A short, consistent routine — wash hands, introduce yourself, confirm the patient — settles your nerves and stops you missing easy marks.
5. Debrief every mock
After each mock station, write down one thing that went well and one thing to improve. Small, steady gains add up fast.
Ready to practise in a realistic setting? Our OSCE Intensive Training is built exactly for this.
